The Origins of Bedeword Lodge
The first meeting of the Founders to discuss the formation of a new lodge took place in the Autumn of 1952 in the Black Horse Inn, Exhall (sadly it closed in 2015 and has since been demolished).
The desire for the new Lodge was to bring Freemasonry to the extensive area lying outside the Masonic centres of Nuneaton and Coventry, particularly Bedworth and District. At this time, the existing Lodges in Nuneaton and Coventry had long waiting lists, to the detriment of potential candidates in the outlying districts. As Bedworth formed the core of the area, it was felt that the name of the new Lodge should be associated with that town.
It was the intention and desire of the Founders that candidates for initiation into the new Lodge would have a personal interest in the area either by residential, business or sentimental associations (as far as was practicable or reasonable).
Why become a Freemason?
You want to make new friendships
Freemasonry offers its members opportunities to create a wide circle of enduring friendships. Through shared interests and encounters with individuals from varied backgrounds, Freemasonry fosters the cultivation of lifelong bonds.
You want to develop yourself
Freemasonry prioritizes character building and individual support, laying the groundwork for members to enhance themselves. These principles enable personal growth, fostering attributes like heightened self-confidence and valuable skills such as public speaking.
You want to make a positive contribution to society
Service lies at the core of Freemasonry, whether through event participation, fundraising for charitable endeavors, or volunteering for public and community organisations. Our members contribute significantly by donating their time, resources, and skills.
How to join our Lodge
Becoming a Freemason means you’ll be joining about 175,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas.
Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.
Any man over the age of 18 is welcome to join Bedeword Lodge 7274, irrespective of their race or religion.
There are two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and HFAF – Freemasonry for Women. They both follow exactly the same ceremonies and wear the same regalia as male Freemasons, and they often work closely with community and charity projects.
